Hi Ron
I’m unsure of what you wrote.
Does the Google Analytics Plugin anonymize the IP address of someone commenting or must one install a proxy plugin ?
Hi There,
We have this guide on the matter of EU Compliance:

A lot of websites in Europe warn the user for the use of cookies. The Google Analytics script (Javascript) makes use of 5 cookies by default.
Suppose I chose the option of anonymized IP addresses in the GADWP plugin. So private IP addresses are no more available to Google Analytics. Then I wonder if I still have to warn the user for the use of the cookies of the Google analytics script. I should say no because no more personal data can be tracked by Google analytics.
Hi there,
This depends on your Google Analytics setup.
IP addresses are used by Google Analytics primarily to do demographics information (specifically the GEO section). If you utilize the anonymize IP setting, you will be able to still view some geo information but the accuracy and precision of that information will be lower.
In general, Google Analytics by itself is a PII-free solution (so for example in the case IP address anonymization is off, you still cannot access those IPs).
Google Analytics utilizes a series of cookies (some for identifying a user, some for whether or not to record sample load times (for the speed reports), some to indicate whether to record for that user at all (if you need to sample to stay within Google quota limits)), etc. Additionally, based on your Google Analytics setup, if you have for example enabled Demographics & Remarketing to allow for cross-sharing with the Google Ads platform, that also affects privacy, since Google can uniquely identify a client based on the Doubleclick cookies then. Or if you have UserID tracking enabled, etc. There’s no way we can generically answer this question, as it is dependent on your specific setup.
