About 10-20 percent of our ticket holders have not been able to download their tickets… they get blocked by their email providers as spam, and then lost in cyberspace somewhere. I have spent HOURS sending tickets individually… be warned…. do not buy this product! I’m am switching to Eventbrite within one month of a major event and I am not happy.

I’m sorry to hear that, @rebecca1964.

Event Tickets itself is of course free and no purchase is needed to download and install it, so can I ask if your experience related to our premium offering (Event Tickets Plus) and did you post for help over on our official Help Desk?

If so and you can share the URLs of any support tickets you created, that would be awesome: even if you have already moved on to alternative solutions I would love to look into this in more detail so we can improve our service in the future.

I’m sorry to hear it. It’s worth highlighting though that this is typically an issue with the server that sends the emails and is not generally a reflection on either Event Tickets or Event Tickets Plus, nor is it even something they can effectively control.

By default, WordPress sends emails using the server’s default mail transfer agent and, particularly (though not exclusively) in the case of regular shared hosting accounts – simply because they often host a large number of websites that may be sending out emails – they may be blacklisted, resulting in the problem you have described.

Solving this sort of issue is sometimes best handled by using a paid-for email service (there are many to choose from including Mailgun and SendinBlue though I encourage you or anyone with the same problem to explore the market as there are many excellent providers out there). Often, by switching to a dedicated and well configured email service, this solves the problem you have described which, again, is largely out of our hands.

I do hope that provides some clarity on things, but don’t hesitate to follow-up if you have further questions or comments.

Yes, I purchased the Event Tickets Plus plugin.

I wish you had said upfront that this will not work well without a paid email system. It would have saved me hours of time and plenty of annoyed customers. I have already discontinued and moved to Eventbrite.

It does work great without a paid email system… I use the free version and have non of the issues that your are referring to. Baby you should run some test with the free version before you purchase the paid one.
As they say in their reply, its not the fault of event tickets that your mail is blacklisted. It is basically the email service that you use with your domain that is responsible for the blacklisting.

I did run tests, and the failure did not show up until we had multiple tickets purchased over time.

    Honey.

Look, if you like it great. I have been dissatisfied.

    Thanks for the follow-up, @rebecca1964.

I wish you had said upfront that this will not work well without a paid email system.

That’s not quite what I said but I realize my wording may not have been crystal clear.

As Rikkel notes, in general ticket emails are dispatched without issue and end up in the recipients’ mailboxes as expected (otherwise, we’d have far more complaints and questions about this same problem). On those occasions where there are issues like you have described, though, we do often find it’s a problem with the hosting environment/email server rather than anything untoward that our plugins are doing.

I hope that clarifies things a little.

    I have been dissatisfied.

Understood – and we’re sorry to hear it. I do think however a 1-star review for a problem that wasn’t necessarily within our control is somewhat unfair.

Ultimately though it sounds like you’ve found a new solution (Eventbrite) that fits your needs and that is the important thing here 🙂
