  • Beginner Bloggers and Copywriters – Find and display fresh, new content to engage and grow your audience.
  • Site Owners & Content Marketers – Curate content to keep your avid readers on your site for longer.

SEO Benefits from RSS Feeds

Importing RSS feeds alone won’t improve your site’s SEO, however, if you curate content (articles, tutorials, videos, listings, etc) and bring in quality traffic, the benefits begin to appear:

  • Generate lots of new backlinks to your site.
  • Enhance your online presence and gain more trust.
  • And therefore, you can help boost your SEO!

Quick sidetone: Don’t steal other people’s work; give credit where it’s due.

Who is this useful for?

Importing and displaying RSS feeds is helpful for many types of sites:

  • Curate news, videos and more from the top sources in your niche.
  • Add related posts from other sites to your site.
  • Curate job, real estate or other listings for your market or niche.
  • Show Youtube videos on your site to engage more visitors.
  • Aggregate podcast episodes related to your hobby or profession.
  • Writers, list your articles from across the web on your main site.
  • And much more.

How to install and set up the core WP RSS Aggregator plugin:

Install Method 1:

  1. Go to the Plugins section in your WordPress site’s dashboard.
  2. Click the “Add New” button.
  3. Search for “WP RSS Aggregator”.
  4. When found, click on the “Install” button, then hit the “Activate” button once it has installed.
  5. Go to the RSS Aggregator menu item, then set up your feed sources and general settings.
  6. Use the WP RSS Aggregator shortcode in your page and/or post to display the imported feed items: [wp-rss-aggregator]

Install Method 2:

  1. Click on the “Download” button above.
  2. Upload the wp-rss-aggregator zip file to your site’s /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
  3. Activate the WP RSS Aggregator plugin from the ‘Plugins’ section in your dashboard.
  4. Go to the RSS Aggregator menu item, then set up your feed sources and general settings.
  5. Use the WP RSS Aggregator shortcode in your page and/or post to display the imported feed items: [wp-rss-aggregator]

You can easily select the source for your feeds and also insert a limit via shortcode parameters as shown below. To get your feed source ID simply hover over the required feed source in the feed source listing page. It will appear beneath the name.

[wp-rss-aggregator source="ID" limit="num"]

An example of a shortcode parameter in use could be:

[wp_rss_aggregator link_before='li class="feed-link"' link_after='/li']

It is advisable to use the ‘HTML’ view of the editor when inserting shortcodes with parameters.

Here are two examples of a function call from within the theme’s files:

wprss_display_feed_items( $args = array(
    'links_before' => '<ul>',
    'links_after' => '</ul>',
    'link_before' => '<li>',
    'link_after' => '</li>',
    'limit' => '8',
    'source' => '5,9'

<?php do_shortcode('[wp-rss-aggregator]'); ?>

How do I display the imported feed items?

You can either use the shortcode in your posts and pages: [wp-rss-aggregator]

Or you can call the function directly within your theme: <?php wprss_display_feed_items(); ?>

Is there a limit on the number of feed sources I can use?

No, there is no limit for the number of feed sources. Having many (50+) feed sources should not present any problems in itself. However, pulling in posts from many sites is bound to put your server under some stress, so you might want to consider using a hosting solution that goes beyond your typical shared host.

Check out our dedicated page on WordPress hosting recommendations.

Does WP RSS Aggregator work using JSON as the source?

No, our plugin does not currently import from JSON, it only imports from RSS and Atom structured XML.

Why do I get “No feed items found” when I insert the shortcode on a page or post?
  1. Try adding a few more feed sources and make sure they are valid by using the RSS Feed Validator.

  2. Try out the solutions listed on our Feed Items Not Importing documentation page.

  3. It’s important to make sure your WordPress cron system is working well. If not, the feeds cannot be imported. If in doubt, you can install the WP Crontrol plugin to check for bad cron, or go to RSS Aggregator > Debugging and hit the red button to re-import all feed items.

If the problems persist, please contact our support team. If you’re using a premium add-on, please use the premium support channel.

Can I store imported feed items as posts?

Yes! You can do that with the Feed to Post premium add-on. You will not only be able to store items as posts, but also as any other custom post type. You can also set the author, set tags and categories, import images into the gallery or set featured images, and much more.

Some RSS feeds only give a short excerpt. Any way around that?

Yes, along with the Feed to Post add-on we have another add-on called Full Text RSS Feeds that can get the full content of most feeds that only supply a short excerpt. The Full Text RSS Feeds add-on requires Feed to Post and a valid license key to function.

I’m not sure which premium add-ons are right for me. Can you help me out?

Sure! We wrote a post just for you. Read about which add-ons you should buy as we explain the different types of usage so you’ll know what to expect when purchasing.

If you need any further help you can contact our support team or try out our Simple Feeds Bundle demo and Advanced Feeds Bundle demo.

Where can I find the documentation for the plugin?

Needed a way to import the content of my sister sites into one platform and this plugin did the trick. Any time I had issues with my account, the support team was super helpful. Highly recommend!

Really good RSS plugin

Look, this plugin is not absolutely perfect, but realistically are there any 100% perfect WordPress plugins out there? My experience with implementing WP RSS Aggregator on a couple of sites is this: Yes - there is a steep learning curve, but you just have to be patient and make sure you are familiar with what you are doing and what the plugin can achieve Yes - there are occasional issues with the manner in which content is fetched, but honestly I can't say whether this is the plugin's fault or that of the feed from the particular site from which it is fetching No - this is not really a "set and forget" plugin. Well, it kind of can be (generally), but if you are not going to spend at least a tiny bit of time checking and moderating your site content generated by WP RSS Aggregator, then I don't think you should be running an aggregation site in the first place. You need to curate your content people!! Yes - I think this plugin with the Advanced Feeds Bundle is absolutely worth the money if you want a comprehensive RSS aggregation plugin that does a darn good job. So, on the whole, I am pretty impressed and more than happy to recommend it to and implement it for my clients who want this. I am also just about to implement it on an aggregated content site of my own, so I obviously have faith in it. One qualification here though - I see a lot of one star reviews for lack of communication from the development team. I can't really comment in terms of plugin support because I haven't had to contact them. I did contact them regarding an affiliate program for on-selling the plugin to my clients, for which I got an answer that I wasn't entirely satisifed with (because it was basically a "No, you can't be an affiliate for now"), but hey, you can't have everything. It won't stop me using the plugin or recommending it. If you're prepared to put in the work for the learning curve, this plugin is really good. If you're not, look elsewhere.

Works OK – but support very poor

This is a premium product at a premium price, options are confusing and poorly explained, the documentation equally so - written by techies and not for users. It works quite well, but when support is needed it is exceedingly slow and mostly just referencing the inadequate documentation.

Don’t waste your money.

I bought 5 licenses 2 years ago. Total waste of money. Terrible support. Plugin is full of bugs. I can't even make the list of all of the issues we had with this terrible plugin. We exchanged over 100 mails with the support team and they never fixed anything. We keep having bugs all day every day. Every single update didn't fix any of the issue, until our license expired and we couldn't update anymore. We wasted hundreds of dollars on this plugin and today we logged on WordPress and realized that full-text-rss isn't working anymore. It's asking to pay another couple of hundreds of dollars to upgrade the licenses I bought previously even if the bugs are not fixed... and the plugin author purposely disabled the old version of full-text-rss that we paid, just to force customers to upgrade & pay again Partial list of problems: -> Double posts. We get them every day. This should be easy to fix because the titles are identical and the plugin is supposed to have a feature to handle this. -> Sources randomly stop posting and we have to manually enable them again by changing the cron delay -> Full-text-rss doesn't work properly, often a part of the text is missing or it's posting text that shouldn't have been included -> Character encoding issues -> Makes the whole website very slow even on a dedicated server running nginx + optimized PHP-FPM + pagespeed + cloudflare -> images problems and incorrect heading images -> A lot of other minor issues ALL of these were reported to the developers YEARS AGO... and NONE of them were fixed but they want us to pay more to update... what a joke
