Secondary Title

Secondary Title is a simple, light-weight plugin that adds an alternative title to posts, pages and/or custom post types.

The plugin comes with an extra settings page which allows you to customize the plugin according to your needs. You can change:

  • post types, categories and specific post IDs the secondary title will be
    shown on,
  • whether the secondary title should be automatically inserted with the standard title (Auto show),
  • the format both titles are being shown (only works when Auto show is activated),
  • the position where the secondary title input field should be displayed (above or below the standard title) within the admin interface,
  • whether the secondary title should only be displayed in the main post and not within widgets etc.,
  • if the secondary title should be usable in permalinks.

Please see the official website for a full

If you have any other ideas for features, please don’t hesitate to submit them by sending me an e-mail and I’ll try my best to implement it in the next version. Your username will be added to the plugin’s contributor list, of course (if you provide one).

Feel free to make Secondary Title easier to use for non-English speaking users by helping to translate the plugin on Transifex.

  • Secondary Title with activated "auto show" function that automatically adds the secondary title to the standard post/page title.

  • Secondary Title with "auto show" off. Displays the secondary title wherever <?php the_secondary_title(); ?> is called.

  • A section of the plugin's settings page on the admin interface.

How to install

  1. Install Secondary Title either through WordPress’ native plugin installer found under Plugins > Install or copy the secondary-title folder into the /wp-content/plugins/ directory of your WordPress installation.
  2. Activate the plugin in the plugin section of your admin interface.
  3. Go to Settings > Secondary Title to customize the plugin as desired.

IMPORTANT: If Insert automatically is set to No, you have to use either

<?php echo get_secondary_title($post_id, $prefix, $suffix); ?>

<?php the_secondary_title($post_id, $prefix, $suffix); ?>

in your theme file(s) (e.g. single.php) to display the secondary title.

Great plugin, excellent support

The plugin worked perfectly for what I needed, to have the author name next to the title. I had a little problem with it in the Next and Previous post buttons and Kolja, the developer, helped me to fix it in less than 5 minutes after a brief chat.

100% recommended!

Excellent and unique plugin

Thank you for developing this plugin. I could find no other plugin with “plug-and-play” functionality and “Sub”titles over the titles.

Two things though:
– the links to your site / docs are broken / the doc is not available.
– it seems that displaying only for some Post IDs does not work (no subtitle is shown at all when entering posts numbers.) Also, it is not really clear which are the rules who apply first or with priority to show subtitles: Post ID, category or post/page/media.

Anyway, thank you and please keep updating and maintaining this wonderful plugin 🙂

Excelent plugin and quick and kind support

I thank a lot Kolja for being so kind and quick in answering my questions. I didn’t realize that you can enter a lot of HTML commands in Title Format field and Kolja just wake me up. Again, thanks for that.

Awesome and smart one

Love to use this one which is similar to @wp-title-2 but very smart way of implementation. title 2 is buggy and has no update since more than 2 years.

Amazing Support!

I was really surprised by the quick and great support I received from the developer. I really didn´t expect him to help me, since what I requested wasn´t mentioned as an included feature; however, I got great orientation on how to perform what I needed! (showing subtitle only for registered users).
