Is this a paid plugin?

This plugin is an interface to your MembershipWorks account, much like how MailChimp or Google Maps plugins are an interface to those systems. When you embed a Google Map on your web page, the map is not generated from your WordPress server. Similarly the heavy lifting and processing for our system happens on our side, including all data storage (triple redundant with daily backups), email delivery, security, updates and compliance. The plugin provides the convenience of integrating features on the website with shortcodes, provides an admin panel on the WordPress dashboard, and checks access on member only pages/posts.

How do I setup the pages for membership sign-up, directory, deals, event calendar, etc?

Create pages and put the corresponding shortcode on the page. The shortcode generator can be found in the Help section under MembershipWorks > Help > Basics & Setup > WordPress > WordPress Shortcodes.

Where can I find the documentation?

The Help section provides all the documentation. Once you activate the plugin, you can access that under Help from the MembershipWorks menu.

Can I use Paypal Standard for membership billing?

No, at this time Paypal Pro is required to interface directly with Paypal for our system. This allows for one page checkout, and for us to track fees and payments, issue refunds, and more.

If you do not have Paypal Pro and do not want to deal with the fees, we recommend using Stripe.

Can I customize the colors in the membership forms, events, etc?

Information about customizing CSS can be found in the plugin under MembershipWorks > Help > Customization > CSS & colors

How do I restrict access to a page or post to members only?

To restrict the content of the entire post/page to members, place the [memberonly] shortcode at the beginning of the post/page. For advanced options please see Help > Basics & Setup > WordPress > Creating Member Only Pages/Posts.

Reviews

Highly recommended

Great software with a lot of options that’s perfect for a Chamber of Commerce. The support is incredibly good, though, and makes this software even more worthwhile. They’re quick to respond to emails, and very helpful. Can’t recommend enough.

Awesome Plugin, Awesome Support

Love MembershipWorks. It hits a sweet spot in the small to mid-size Association Management space. It does a great job of incorporating online membership management with events, directories, dues, recurring payments and more.

Their support is great, and fast to respond. Highly recommend!

Excellent approach to membership sites

I’ve been using this for about 6 months now, on a professional education and networking site, and am very pleased so far.

There are limitations, and it’s difficult to modify for custom needs. On the other hand, it was simple to integrate and manages several types of systems well: membership registration, renewals, payments, event promotion, event ticketing (with member-specific pricing), an event calendar, and email system to members and event registrants all in one. Rather than having these all be independent systems, it’s all integrated. That means, though, that those systems may not be as fully developed as stand-alone systems, but the ability to have them all interoperate is a real boost.

I hope they’ll work on expanding features (beefing up the email system to include templated emails to members, other than the automated emails which are templated, for example). And it’s also a bit odd that they use G+ for support, which means asking questions and reporting issues is public rather than private. But they do respond quickly and will take issues private if needed.

And yes, it is a plugin that requires payment for groups of more than 50 members, or if you want to connect it to a payment processor. But it’s an affordable option for many clubs/organizations, and can help even novice WP builders get something workable and polished up at a negligible cost.

Outstanding Plugin

This is an outstanding plugin which has revolutionized our membership program and control of paid and non-paid events. The free version is somewhat limited and didn’t meet our needs (800 member Plant Society) as we had to have the ability to charge for several different membership levels. But if your organization is larger than 50 members and you need a good system for tracking members, collecting payments on-line and running events, this plugin is well worth while.

The best part of this plugin is the service, which is excellent and timely and well worth the monthly charge.

LOVE the plugin and LOVE the support staff

This is a pretty cool plugin and I would recommend it to anyone.

Their customer service is top notch! When ever i have issues i email them and i get a response right away! AND they follow up to make sure that the problem has been resolved.

I’ve also emailed them a few times with some suggestions and I was surprised when they actually implemented some of them in their upgrades.

There is a fee to use the plugin if you want extra features or you have over a specific number of registered users. This is a business and they need to make money and pay people to update the program. The monthly cost is worth it
