Forum: Localhost Installs
In reply to: White screen of deathFixed. I finally found my functions.php file *on my computer* (not hard to find when you know where to look) and deleted the bit of code I’d just put there.
Hurrah!

In reply to: Have one WordPress, do I need another? Thanks bemdesign. I’d been wondering if it might be possible to move the blog content later. Worth trying.
Already making progress with getting MAMP happening.
Thanks!

In reply to: 2 wordpress installations, one databaseThanks Keith. Really useful information. I appreciate your help. Never heard of Duplicator before (great!) and a reminder to back up is always a good idea!
Thanks.

In reply to: Have one WordPress, do I need another? Thanks bemdesign. I appreciate your thoughts! I hadn’t thought of the performance issue. That is very valuable. Thanks.
I have just found a tutorial about working with MAMP that is much more helpful than the WordPress info. I’m working my way through it.
If I do have two different databases, one for website with forums and ecommerce, the other for the blog (but with the same look/feel as each other), I guess that means that any design changes I make to one website will have to be made separately to the other. No way around this, I guess.
Thanks!

In reply to: 2 wordpress installations, one databaseNo, unfortunately I don’t think that answers my question. I know how to install WordPress. What I don’t know how to do is to put it in a different subdomain, and then move it to the main domain. I’m particularly scared that I might accidentally overwrite the existing WordPress blog that I have. That would be rather a disaster…
Thanks – that helps to explain the layers.
We’re still getting the duplicate layers. No idea why. We have the latest version as we only downloaded it today (I just checked and it is fine).
In the import template, in the column called basemap, are there only two codes to choose from or are there other codes for the other types of maps? The two options are OSM_mapnik and googleLayer_satellite.
Thank you for your help. We really do appreciate it.
Thanks Robert. Yes, they were multilayer maps – unticked them, and we’re able to now add markers to the layers. Thank you.
Hopefully we’ll stop getting the randomly appearing duplicate layers too. 🙂
I’m still very confused about this though. What is the point of a multilayer map if you can’t place markers on it? For example, if you wanted to have a map of locations of public toilets, I might want to have one layer with all the free public toilets and another layer with the ones you have to pay for. For me, the layers would be a way of arranging the information and differentiating between the two.
If that’s not how it works, what are multilayer maps for?
Thanks so much.
