Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Newbie installation tip – I wasted 2 weeks; this might help youThank you for posting this thread. I too have spent endless hours trying to set up a WP site. We selected WP for its supposed features. My background is in print. I know basic XHTML +CSS, but no scripting. We are hosted by GoDaddy which supports WP. I am just trying to upload a basic WP theme with features that are actually supported within the GoDaddy environment. Uploaded Vinica then Sliding Door. None of the menus on either theme work in GoDaddy, and after going to all the trouble of selecting and activating the themes, a warning from GoDaddy comes up saying the menus (the feature we wanted) are not supported. We picked these themes for their menus. I then discovered GoDaddy hadn’t upgraded the themes, instead supplying antiquated versions. I finally tossed out Vinica as there is no support anywhere for it, not even on the developer’s site. At least the developer of Sliding Door has a support forum. GoDaddy offers no WP support, except a basic WP installation manual which was great for installation.
As of today, and weeks later, still don’t have a WP site with functioning menus. I probably will just have to accept a static theme to resolve this. However, having just found this forum today, I will check out the links provided in the many replies. Appreciate the initial post and subsequent dialogue.
