I found some themes that have a featured posts option, but in the form of a slideshow/slider box. And the more I think about it, the more I realize how unfeasible it is to find an automated solution. The Adweek header has custom headlines (that different from the actual story headline…in order to fit the space available) and custom excerpts. What’s more, they also have photoshopped images that crop out the background of featured images.
I guess the only way to make something like this work…is through hand codded HTML and manually edited images. That is, unless someone knows of some super-duper solution I’m unaware of.
