I just “MOVED” my installation from Namecheap to a Digital Ocean VPS and the red exclamation mark disappeared immediately. I figured it had to be something to do with my setup/hosting as there was not a lot of people reporting the issue.
I worked with Namecheap but after two tickets I decided to setup a test server on Digital Ocean to see if it cleared up….and it did.

change “www.example.com” to your site. This was failing for me prior to moving to Digital Ocean.

I have this exact same issue. Started about a week or so ago. I have been installing and reinstalling with the same issue. Installed a backup from when I know it was working and it still does it….
It seems like there is some connecitivity because if I do a disconnect via the wordpress.com site my local server will disconnect.
