Ok, found it! There was another plugin messing with the rewrites. Strangely enough, only the urls of event organiser were affected and only after the update (the other plugin was active before the update). Oh well, no matter. It works again (the other plugin is something I can live without).

When I try to view a list of events (archive) in a category I get a 404 page. I get this on two separate installs.
Yes, I save the permalinks on the WordPress settings > Permalinks page.
Like I say, when I disable the nice permalinks in event organiser, the events (as a list on the archive page) show up nicely.
    I test as follows:
    1) Made sure there are events in category A
    2) Created a menu item for Category A
    3) When nice URLs are not active, clicking the menu item shows a list of all events in Category A.
    4) Enabling nice URLs (and saving them) clicking on the menu item gives me a 404.
The only change I made was updating to 1.4 but I’ll accept that it the fault is elsewhere. Not sure whare to start looking though?

Ok, I managed to narrow it down to a problem with permalinks. When I disable nice URLs it works, as soon as I enable them again page cannot be found. I saved permalinks in settings, I also tried renaming all permalinks (and saving again obviously) and renaming categories. Nothing works except disabling permalinks?
