Had my host force-delete the directory. Also noted that WordPress installed aberrant wp-admin and wp-include directories, AND deleted/overwrote my index.php file, which I had to re-edit back. Issue now resolved.
I should also note: the abberant/new wp-content folder is an exact replica of my domain.com/wordpress/wp-content folder, including all the plugins and themes that are there. It reads all these files being created on 6/30/11, which is, I believe, when I upgraded to 3.2.
Made my template (which was sitting outside the WordPress directory) into a “Page Template” and got it working. It’s a hack, but that’s fine. If you have non-hack ways of enabling it, please let me know. Thanks so much for the plugin!
