I think your current theme looks nice. What do you mean by make it more complex? Get yourself Google Webmaster Tools and Analytics and then see where your traffic comes from and optimize your site through those tools data. Trust me, it’s a lot easier that way. Don’t fix what isn’t broke.
It is all a matter of editing your theme’s CSS. Open the main CSS file and look up on google “css font” and then add that to the theme’s own font references.
It seems like the update hasn’t been finished completely. Possibly the PHP script execution limit is too low? Try downloading WP 3.0 from the home page and replace all directories and files EXCEPT wp-content and wp-config.php with the files in the zip. Then it should all work.
