something finally worked for me 🙂
In my case, the problem was with the theme.When everything get stucked, connect with your FTP client and delete the active theme’s folder in wp-contents/themes (of course, be sure to have all your bkup before any operation!)
At this point, if you can access again to your WP admin, the problem comes with the theme (like it was for me).If so, you can do the same steps that I made:
1. complete bkup of files and database
2. update WP to 4.2.2 or latest version (don’t care if it gets stuck)
3. delete theme folder via FTP
4. access to WP admin (that should work now, without theme’s files) and activate temporarily another standard WP theme (i.e. Twenty-15 or whatever you want)
5. upload the last version of your original theme via FTP
6. reload. that’s it!In the end, after a WP and theme update, if you notice some unexpected 404 errors, try to switch the permalinks off and then reactivate them.
These operation worked fine for me.
I hope it can help you.. But please, be sure to have a full bkup before any try.

i’m also having a problem with nextgenGal plugin and dropdown menu.
i’m not sure that it has to do with your problem.. but i’m nearly densperate and trying to find someone who solved it..
unfortunately, i can’t post the link yet, as it’s a work for a customer and the contents are hidden at the moment.
but, in few words, the problem is this:

everything works fine, but since i installed the nexGenplugin, in the gallery page, the dropdown js menu doesn’t work anymore.i saw your link: http://www.calla-deko.de/
it seems like it’s working now.
