I would like to temporarily (possibly permanently) remove the “Trailsnet Review” and “Trail Tours” pages as well as the child pages attached to those pages. If you look at the “Trails” and “Add a New Trail” pages and all child pages associated with those two, you might be able to tell that those were custom pages made just for Trailsnet.

However all the rest of the pages (including the “Trailsnet Review” and “Trail Tours” pages) were made using the normal WP theme template/process.

My site does have a custom trails menu, but I don’t believe the pages I want to delete are considered part of the custom menu.

Ooops! I spoke too soon. I changed the publish status to draft, then updated the pages. It didn’t seem to work. I visited my website, refreshed it, and the pages still appeared in the menus.

Am I missing a step or doing something wrong? When I went back to check, the pages are showing up as “Drafts” on my WP dashboard, but they’re still acting like they’re being published in final form. I feel like such a WP rookie.

BTW – The website in question is Trailsnet.com.

Brilliant!! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that???

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it!!

Okay, I see what you mean now. I just checked out the column width options and, sure enough, there are numbers in every one of the boxes. I also noticed that there are numbers in the three column option even though my website only has two columns. In fact the only slider bare that seems to currently be enabled is the three column one.

So should I go in and delete all those numbers and then start using the two column slider?

    Thanks for your assistance, BTW.

kjodle – Yep, I saw your response, and thanks for that. You’re absolutely right about losing the change each time Graphene is updated. However, this is just a temporary fix until I can sit down w/ my WP guru and make a permanent change.

I wish I could make some of the changes myself, but unless they are really clearly explained to me like alchymyth did above, I am totally lost when people start talking in code.

I’m a complete css/coding dunce. However, I welcome any and all explanations and solutions and am grateful for each one.

Thanks again for your help. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it to work. I even tried adjusting the max-width value a few times to see if that made a difference, but no luck.

It’s nice to have the rest of the site running properly, but so far the Trails pages have no sidebar.

That’s incredible. It actually worked. You are a complete genius!!!

Thank you so much for the code, the mini tutorial on finding the editor and, once again, for the trail information, alchymyth!! You went above & beyond. I appreciate it.

Now all my trailsnet pages work except the trail description pages. A developer created special child pages just for the purpose of displaying the trail information entered by me and others. I tried adding the .sidebar{width:290px;} code at the bottom of the child page style.css page, but it didn’t work.

You’ve already been incredibly helpful, but if you happen to have another solution up your sleeve for this problem, I’d appreciate it.

    Thanks again!!!

Thank you for all your help. It sounds like the first thing I should do is make sure the sidebar width is 290px.

Now my true ignorance will shine through. I have no idea how to change/add coding on a WordPress theme. I just browsed through every possible setting I could find on my dashboard and don’t see an option for viewing and editing code.

I would greatly appreciate some quick advice on what to look for.

Thanks for the help and thanks to alchymyth The Sweeper for the great rail-trail advice. Sometime in the next couple years I plan to ride every lengthy bike path in England. I love that place.

Thanks for that information, Josh. I just started using the custom sidebars plugin and so far it’s working great. For my main website, I decided to have someone completely customize the whole site, but for my other two, I’ll use the custom sidebars plugin.

    (@trailsnet)

    That did it!!

Thank you immensely for sticking with me and doing such a good job of explaining the process. Now it works like a charm. You’re a life saver!!

    Dang,
That didn’t work. It just added another HOME button, but the button takes me to an ERROR page instead of my blog/home page.
In reworking my entire site for SEO, the home page address was changed from http://www.activetraveltours.com/blog to just http://www.activetraveltours.com.
But the HOME button still tries to take me to the link w/ the “blog” in the URL. I know how to change the URL in every other page in my website except the home page. For some reason, that page doesn’t show up in my list of “all pages.” And when I go to the “Posts” admin page, I can fiddle w/ the individual posts on my home/blog page, but not with the URL of the actual page that contains those posts.

Once again, thank you for your help, silverks!! I appreciate your patience.

    Thanks silverks,

Before I give your suggestion (above) a try, I want to make sure I understand your instructions:

So I went to WP Admin > Appearance > Menus and the only place I could find a “Home menu item” was in the “Pages” box. When I first looked, “home” wasn’t even in that one, but when I checked the “view all” tab, it appeared.

So then you said I “check the link for the Home menu item.” I’m not sure what that means or how to do it. Do you literally mean just add a check in the tick box to the left of the Home menu item? Or do you mean there should be a URL associated with that Home menu item that I’m supposed to look at? If the latter, I don’t know how to check that, because no URL address appears.

Sorry for my ignorance, but your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks Samuel,

I appreciate your assistance. In looking at the two solutions you suggested, I have a couple quick questions:
    1. With the first suggestion, it looks like I would just copy that shortcode & paste it into the body of my WP page. If that’s correct, do I also copy the beginning & ending brackets? I know that’s a rookie question, but I’m just getting started on this coding stuff & am pretty ignorant.
    2. The second “embed-iframe” suggestion you supplied looks like I would install it like a normal widget. If that is correct, how do I get that widget into my WP page/site? WP only seems to allow widgets in sidebars.
Once again, sorry for my ignorance & thanks for your help.
