No that error_log call is there by mistake – just edit the plugin and the file ingboo-facebook-like.php and remove the call.
It will be removed in the next update – thanks for pointing this out.

The detection depends on the standard RSS feed from your blog so as long as your Custom Post Type posts are included in the feed they will be detected.
If you use filtering on Categories or Tags and let the Category/Tag be something specific to you Custom Post Type you can even get detection of updates to just those Custom types.
