    no problem…

okay last question… there are 14 steps in the instructions and then four more for Version 2.7 until I get to 3.1. I suspect I will do these things with each successive upgrade. I can do that…

so, to get started, I should download from the archives, version 2.9 and transfer those files, do everything, then go to the archives and download 3.1, and so on, similar to the upgrade stages you outlined?

I like the maintenance page… excellent

I was thinking the same thing and I will do the steps in the extended instructions… just wanted to be sure

I really appreciate all your help, Thanks so much!

Not sure if you speak in public, but if you do and you would like some constructive feedback, I will be happy to return the favor.

By the way, you should be able to see the blog now (I hope).

One other thing — as I do these upgrades I am guessing the blog will still be visible using the default theme or the twentytwenty theme throughout the effort, is that correct?

Secondly, should I upgrade using the button in the admin panel — or — should I use the link you gave me earlier about “upgrading wordpress extended” ?

okay… so I will have to upgrade in version order… and it looks like there are about 32 versions following mine — so I suspect that will take a while…or, is there a way to limit the number of upgrade stages (maybe it jumps in full sections — 2.8, 2.9. 3.0 etc.)

I will do whatever it takes to become current

Yes…I will carve out time this weekend to upgrade, and I ay have to upgrade the theme, as well, and then I may have to fix the pages — but it is better to be safe… I agree!

I was able to solve the problem. I had noticed a post about not being able to access the admin panel and the solution was to use phyMyAdmin to edit the SQL database record — changing two lines (template and stylesheet) by renaming the theme to “default”.

Then the admin panel opened, as did the blog, only in the default theme. So, closed the panel and went back to the database, renamed the theme back to the original name (atahualpa3.2) using the same phyMyAdmin process.

I reopened the panel and the blog and everything is back to normal.

The page that described this process is at:

Thanks for helping me with this… very appreciated and I will heed your advice and upgrade, even if I have to reformat the pages.

I agree with you and will do as you suggest. I will follow the links and once I am up and running again, I will attempt the upgrade and then rework all my pages to get them looking okay.

Here’s the reason for still the old version. I am using the Atahualpa 3.2 version of their theme. When I upgraded to the next version of WP, 2.8 or even 3.0 (I am not recalling exactly) all my deigned pages were all messed up an the site was literally a mess.

There were others with these problems — so I reverted back to WP 2.7.1 and did not change Atahualpa 3.2 to any thing new — just so I did not have to redo all the pages again.

If I can reinstall the 2.7.1 that would at least get me back to where I have been the last few years.

I agree that I should upgrade and that may be the only option if i can’t get a fresh copy of 2.7.1.

    Thread Starter TMucci

    (@tmucci)

How do I obtain a FRESH download of WP 2.7.1 — I see there is a download of the current version, but where can I get the older version?

    Thread Starter TMucci

    (@tmucci)

Okay… I will do that. I found my original WordPress 2.7.1 folder that I downloaded in 2010. I looked at the installation instructions from WP regarding a manual installation. I suspect I need to copy all the files and folders manually to replace the existing ones (first deleting them), making sure I don’t copy the wp-content folder.

I have a copy of my wp-confif.php file saved, as well.

Is there any other file or folder that you suggest I don’t delete or overwrite?

Before I do all of this, I will check the error logs.

when I attempt the link: http://www.medianet-ny.com/wordpress/
I suspect the index.php file is launched to get the blog started. It hangs and after several minutes the install.php file is activated and it has input for name of blog and email address to do the quick installation.

When I try to go to my link to the administration page, the same thing happens. I just don’t know what could have changed in the last few days that even keeps me from opening the admin panel.

    (@tmucci)

I renamed the Atahualpa 3.2 theme and I renamed the plugins folder to plugins, hold and sill not able to access the WP administration page.

I also noticed that the install.php page launches when it cannot find my blog. Does this page show only for me or are my blog visitors getting the same page? If so, can they execute a reinstall from that page? That would be a problem, I would think.

I have not done the third item yet.

    Thread Starter TMucci

    (@tmucci)

Thanks… just some clarification. Should I take these actions one at a time? Should I do them in the order you suggested?

    (@tmucci)

    The domain is http://www.medianet-ny.com
the WP blog is at http://www.medianet-ny.com/wordpress/

this is where the problem is… I can’t get to the dashboard page nor to the blog itself. Something is stopping me.

I contacted my host and they can see the files (as can I) in all the subfolders as well, but they say the problem is with WP. I am using version 2.7.1 and just this past week it has stopped working.

My SQL database is there and I can see that, too. I backed up all my content and the config file.

Any thoughts on what to do next?

okay… thanks… sorry about that…I will start a new thread
