never had problems with this plugin.
I also performed the restore using the backup files produced by him.
To configure a backup just go into the settings page, create a new job, accept the defaults and specify in the email address where to send the files.

maybe you have to install a backup plugin.
i’m using a plugin called BackWPup, it backups database and files and it can send the backup file to you by email. It’s only one of several backup plugins available at wordpress.org/extend/plugins.
