Actually – it seems to be a WordPress 4.4 issue rather than a WooCommerce issue.
That was indeed the issue. Thanks. Though, do I need to enable something else in order to make the list view work when selected on the front end?
My first attempt was to have 4 columns with 40 products per page. But it returned three columns (though the 40 products/posts per page worked).
