Took me forever to find the right “settings,” but it works now. I selected:
Post name http://foo.com/sample-post/
in the “common settings” for permalink and left the others at default for now.

Mizagorn, you’re right. I was looking through plug-ins, etc. I should’ve asked directly: is there a plug-in to add this information to a website? I’ve installed Woocommerce, but don’t (currently) want e-commerce functionality.

ok, when I bulk edited the pages, and marked them as published, then I was able to add the pages.
