forget this request.
i have disbled the plugin now. too many issues with it on a live site. it isnt reliable enough in IE8 + wp3
for example , if anyone writes more than a couple of lines of text in a single shout the box doesnt display it properly, im guessing this is a css issue but ive lost patience with trying to hack the code to get it working properly.
thanks anyway.
this seems to have worked.
I totally removed the plugin files. re-downloaded them and activated it by ticking the box and choosing actviate from the drop down menu, rather than just clicking the activate link.
this seems to have installed the shoutbox properly now.
can you tell me why this works, it makes no sense to me why that way of activating it would fix the issue.
I will try it on my main site and let you know.
thanks

hi piere,
i have also just installed WP2.9.2 at:
and your plugin works fine.
I noticed that I dont get any errors after installing the plugin. I also noticed that in the admin section of your plugin all the default values are there. When I install it on WP3 all the boxes are blank.
It is definately relating to changes in WP3.
hope that helps you improve your plugin and really make it WP3 compatible, because clearly it isnt at the moment.
I have just installed the plugin on a fresh install of WP3 (see link above) and still get the warning after it is installed:
“The plugin generated 976 characters of unexpected output during activation. If you notice “headers already sent” messages, problems with syndication feeds or other issues, try deactivating or removing this plugin.”
I have added the widget to my sidebar and if i try to post a shout it does nothing.
Also IE reports errors on page. click bottom left warnings to see these:

I have also checked the erro_log file again and it has numerous repeated errors:
/home/dodge/public_html/site1/wp-content/plugins/pierres-wordspew/wordspew.php on line 178

any help, I would like to use this plugin.
thanks

im going to do a brand new fresh install of WP3 and I will post the url in a moment once i have tried to install your plugin.
thanks

i have looked into this further and it would seem it is related to a similar problem that has already been discussed relating to poor coding of the WPURL.
i have ftp’d to the plugins location on my server and ive downloaded the error_log file. it is reporting lots of errors, mostly relating to :
[29-Jun-2010 06:20:06] PHP Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by…….
I have tried changing the code in wordsprew.php & wordsprew_admi.php but so far no luck 🙁

In reply to: [GD Star Rating] [Plugin: GD Star Rating] v1.9.2 – IE8 – WP3 = brokenMany thanks for your help.
it would seem the problem was down to my IE8 not clearing out cookies properly, and there is an option in GDSR to use cookies to stop multiple voting. I didnt see this option.
I cleared out the cookie manually and also I am now using just logged IP’s and ignoring cookies and everything is working as it should.
many thanks again!

In reply to: [GD Star Rating] [Plugin: GD Star Rating] v1.9.2 – IE8 – WP3 = brokenwell it was working until this morning when I ran the automatic updater to take it to 1.9.2. so im guessing something has changed in the code for GDSR which is now conflicting with another plugin i have.
Im guessing it is relating to the wp_prettyphoto plugin, because when i have GDSR activated the prettyphoto plugin stops working also.
if i disable GDSR the prettyphoto starts to work again.
they were both working fine together when GDSR was on v1.9.1
