Wp email users is not mean to send emails to customized roles nor it can be used in conjunction with any other group plugin currently, but sooner we are going to release plugin with this feature with which you can use wp email user in conjunction with few popular group plugins.

We advise you to deactivate all the other plugins and keep WP EMAIL USERS activate and try sending mail. Just to check if any other plugins getting a conflict with ep email users.
