thanx Shatteredsoul. apparently the issue was a temp drive being full at my hosting provider (eek), so that was the source of the “error 28 from storage engine”

Thanx for the reply. However the defailt category was set – but strangely enough, posts weren’t going into that category I specified. I’m wondering if Smart_rss isn’t working anymore although the plugin says it will work.
