Thanks for your response. Haven’t quite got around to tweaking the extension PHP code, but will update this thread when I decide on a solution (PHP is not too familiar to me).

I also note that this functionality was developed into a formal extension:

OK, found an alternative method.
For anyone else who’s running a CRON job or a script that saves local copies of external html pages, the plugin below will allow you to place that saved content in a sidebar or main page content via shortcode.

Appears to work well.
