Okay so my friend figured out that they galleries only work when I use the Shortcode ([nggallery …]), instead of the NextGen button to insert into a page.
I thought you had told me I had to use the button to be able to sort the gallery … Confused as to how I should be adding galleries now …Thanks Cais, I received an email that stated to post it to the forum. I’m confused as to where I should be following up on this. Can you please let me know the exact place and send me a link?

I tried re-adding the NextGen gallery to the page, I looked at the gallery to make sure all the images are still there yet nothing changes and I get the same error message.
What else can I try??PS
This solution in a previous thread does not work for me:“I just discovered that not using the NextGEN gallery widget with Pagebuilder,and only using Visual editor and clicking the new GREEN BUTTON to insert the gallery and sort from there works perfectly. Seems to have solved my problem. Good tutorials on the Imagely page!”
I tried adding the gallery with the small green button into the page and using the settings in the modal window to sort, and while it shows the correct first picture in the edit interface for the page, when I save and view online, it is back to the old order.
Also, the settings for a gallery I insert into a page do not work. I tried adding an existing NextGen gallery to a page with slideshow settings but it would not recognize any change in settings at all and instead show the gallery as thumbnails on the page, no matter what I did.
That gallery (http://www.biggster.com/mygallery/plan-bbk/), as well as previous ones I added, cannot be custom sorted (or the sort order changed in any other way).
To better understand, look at this one: http://www.biggster.com/mygallery/wapta-traverse-2016/ It is very easy to see from the captions that it starts with the last day of the trip when it should be starting with Day 1. It’s very annoying to send it to friends in this wrong order.
When I go into Gallery – Manage Gallery, there is no sorting option for the gallery (no button). When I go to the page that has the gallery added (in this case, http://www.biggster.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=4616&action=edit) I click on edit and work through the settings in the modal window that pops up, all the way to the bottom of the accordion panel where it says to “sort/exclude”, I change the order there, then save, and it does not show any changes online. I have cleared the cache too.
The display was inserted with the green button onto the page but I also tried it with the shortcut (“[nggallery …. id …]”) which made no difference.
What else do you need to know? I have been dealing with this for so long and still don’t get answers back, only questions. Please help.Cais, I had to change this to a theme-built in slideshow on top of the page because NextGen was not working and I had to get this page done (it was time sensitive). So no, there is no NextGen slideshow showing anymore because no matter what I did, it was showing all thumbnails instead of one slideshow.

and please let me know how the sorting issue can be fixed. I have had this with other NextGen galleries, no matter how I create them (green button, [ng …] code) and it is very annoying. It has been tested on other themes so it is not theme related. I have also tried various plugin settings (including disabling them all) which does not help.Still trying to find a solution to this:

I am going to “Manage Galleries”, then find the newest one, click on “Sort Gallery”, edit the order (it’s actually just by file name), make sure it shows in the order I want, then hit “Update Sort Order”. However, I then go back to the gallery page and the order is not changed at all. I am no able to change the picture order at all. Please help.
BTW I originally added the gallery with a shortcut but have now also tried adding it with the “green box” and then sorting in the popup window. Same result.

You can see from the picture titles that it is showing in exactly reverse order.I have tried sorting from the green button insert but even though it shows the correct order when I do that, as soon as I update the page and go into the online view, it is back in the wrong order.

Please note that I already tried the sorting through the gallery menu in WordPress (Manage Galleries), inserting both the shortcode and the “green box” into the page for the gallery, and editing in the popup window when clicking on the “green box” gallery. Nothing helps, and even the selected preview picture is wrong.
