and in the multi site manager it says both that there are NO PLUGINS and that a plugin needs updating.

Similar problem – I have used Rename Wp Logon many times and never had this issue.
No idea what else is in there as I can’t get in – I CAN login, but “You must log in to access the admin area.” stops me doing anything!Steve

How did the menu look to you Steve? Sometimes its fine, others you just get a sort of menu tree down the left and no images, others it goes straight to the full site.
The menu is in two rows.
