It can be due to php limits like max execution time etc. Have you try to update again?
I usually create stage environment, test my updates on stage then do on live or push from stage to live environment. But staging need to be supported on your hosting. I use closte.com as they also have safe backups before upgrade.
Find other hosting, I recommend closte.com as they don’t have inodes limit
