Managed to fix it I think. I deleted the Nextgen gallery plugin and installed the NextCellent gallery plugin and had it all back up and running in a few minutes. Hopefully this will be a permanent fix.

In reply to: Login, footer bar missing and galleries not functioning properlyYes, I was looking at that in the last hour or so and also found the Nextgen gallery plugin seems to be where the issue is. When activated, all the above issues are present – when deactivated, obviously no images but everything else works fine.
I can’t see a way to re-install it without deleting it. In that case, will I loose all images and codes stored in the nextgen folders within wp_content? Not a big issue to re-up the images if I have to.
I have also posted a similar question on the Nextgen gallery part of this forum. No big rush so will see what response I get from there.
Thanks, Danny.

In reply to: Login, footer bar missing and galleries not functioning properlyThanks for your reply. I don’t see a 500 internal server error message. Some points of interest – I only have 2 plugins installed, one for backups and nextgen gallery for all the images. No cashe plugins at all. I may have to edit this post to get this to work right but here’s a screenshot of what I see and I assume everyone else at the moment –
Here’s what I see when logged into wordpress and is what it should look like (without the widgets sidebar)
I deleted the .htaccess file and made no difference. I saved it elsewhere in case it’s needed. I am in Australia and the site is hosted on servers in the US.
Will keep looking but not sure what I’m looking for just yet. Regards, Danny.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityThanks again. I impressed myself with what I was able to achieve in such a short time with the http://bmmclub.com website so I decided to do up my own website and installed WordPress there. http://sonicracingaustralia.com This new page also contains a link to the original website at http://sonicracingaustralia.com/index.htm so it’s not offline.
I have a couple of issue on the main page I can’t seem to nut out just yet. If you look at the page, you will see the three problems I’m having. The top right header is in the middle, the primary sidebar is also in the middle and the font on the footer is way too large. I have had a not so knowledgeable look at the theme editor and felt it best to leave it alone. Any thoughts on this, not sure where else to look.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityAll up and running again. I have transferred the domain name over to the new host provider for the site and have had to start pretty much from scratch. Without a database, I was not able to restore the functionality of the original site but at least I had all the objects, photos and so on. I was able to salvage some of the text content from an sql file, the rest I made up as I went along.
I spent a few hours doing a crash course in themes, plugins, widgets and so on. Starting with just the basic BMMC child theme and the Genesis parent theme, I was able to give the site a familiar look and all pages are now functional. There were some serious issues with how the original site’s account and hosting manager accounts were set up by the re-seller but I am now in full control of the site and also have the ftp working.
I now have a much better understanding of WordPress – I also have a back up plugin installed that sends me a database back up each night and does a full site back up each week for me to download.
Thanks wslade for pointing me in the right direction and for your encouragement for me to fix this myself. I have marked this topic as resolved.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityMy line of thinking was to first install WordPress from the main control panel, probably the earlier version, say 4.1.5 which should create the wp-admin, wp-content and wp-includes folders – then unzip the back up and let that overwrite the newly installed files with what was the working content from the back up. Or should that be the other way around or am I not even close with that line of thinking?

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityHere’s a screen shot list of all “sql” files within the saved back up.
Will look at doing some installs later today and see how I go. Thanks very much for your assistance with this, much appreciated.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityOK, starting from scratch it looks like. Apparently there has never been a control panel set up for bmmclub.com – only bmmc.info but the two were never linked together. The host provider (not the re-seller) has set up a new account for bmmclub.com and they have deleted anything associated with bmmc.info
They did this because I said I had a full back up of the website from before it all went wrong. They said to upload the back up to the public_html folder and go from there. I’m assuming there’s more to it than just unzipping the file that so all I’ve done for now is uploaded the back up zip file.
Do I need to install WordPress from the main control panel first, before I unzip the back up file – or will it install itself from the back up?
The website is still at http://bmmclub.com and shows “coming soon” which I can also see on the index.php file in the public_html folder so I know I’m in the right place this time.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityThe account was originally set up with a re-seller, not the actual host provider. The website is hosted on the providers “re-seller servers” not their main servers which are for those that deal direct with them, they actually provide good phone support and have resolved some small issues in the past for us even though we don’t deal with them directly. The re-seller however, is a pain in the butt, is never there to answer the phone, takes 2 or 3 days to get an email response, provides no support and wants $300 for 2 hours minimum to have a look at anything. They also charge us over 3 times the price per month for hosting than the actual provider charges for the exact same plan.
We will be moving the site over to the actual host provider and giving the re-seller the flick in the next month or two. Just would have liked to have had the site working working properly before then.
I understand now this stuff up is all of my own doing. By my updating WordPress, plugins and the themes in particular, is what has had the most impact on things not working the way they use to.
Maybe starting from scratch when we change over to the new provider will be the best thing.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityWhen I look at theme details, it comes up with
“BMMC child theme version 1.0
by Studiopress
This is a child theme of genesis”Here are some screen shots if it helps.
Control panel main page
This is what I mean when I said “I don’t see any point”
Here’s the FTP account that I can’t get to work. The changes I have been making (re-installing the themes) are on the WordPress login, not the control panel login. (see “photo” from post 8 above.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityI asked the host to do a password reset on the control panel last week so I could gain access. The details they provided are to access the control panel for our account name of bmmclub.info. Not sure if I need to be looking somewhere else for a control panel for bmmc.com
I have set up an FTP account with login and password through the control panel but when I try to connect with FTP, I get a – connection aborted – login error. Not the end of the world as I can access files and folders, do uploads and downloads directly with the control panel. I don’t see any point as I said before, there’s simply nothing there to access – just empty folders.
I don’t see how I can connect to .ftp.bmmclub.com:21. if it exists as no FTP account has been set up or is associated with that, that I know of.
Something of interest using the WordPress login, I found the Genesis theme is the parent to the BMMC child theme. I bit the bullet and deleted the bmmc child and genesis themes while logged in to WordPress – I zipped up the original folders I have here and re-installed them. I can now see the older version of genesis installed by its version number however, it made no difference to appearance the the bmmc child theme – it still looks the same as it did before I re-installed the older version of bmmc child and genesis. Is there something else preventing the install of the older theme versions from taking effect?
Thanks for your patients and understanding of my lack of knowledge. Regards, Danny.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityCouldn’t get the FTP to work so I tried the other method. Here’s what happened.
Unpacking the package…
Installing the theme…
Destination folder already exists. /home/bmmclub/public_html/wp-content/themes/bmmc/
Theme install failed. There was no option to overwrite the theme and am hesitant to just delete it.
I also can’t explain where all the gallery photos and their folders went to either. It’s like they have been deleted as there is no longer a “Gallery” option on the Dashboard menu.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityFor my own benefit, a parent and child theme is a relationship rather than the actual name of the themes?
Current themes listed on the Dashboard are – BMMC child – BMMC2 – BMMC3 – Genesis, 2010 and 2011. The BMMC2 and 3 both have scripting errors so cannot be used without creating security violation errors
I would put it back to the saved and working theme if I could but that’s the problem. There is nowhere in the new Dashboard menu since updating WordPress to add or install anything. It simply no longer exists. As I said previous, the control panel I have access to doesn’t appear to be for our website as there is nothing there at all, just an empty cgi folder.
To make this even more confusing, the original website was called bmmc.info and so is the account name. The website was changed to bmmclub.com (all of this long before I came along) however the account is still in the name of bmmc.info. the control panel access I have is for bmmc.info and like I said, there’s nothing there and when I did a domain search, it says bmmc.info belongs to a company in the Nederlands where as we are in Australia.
I have set up an FTP account at bmmc.info however, when I try to connect with the Leap FTP program I use, there is always a login error (connection aborted). All login details are correct so I don’t know what the problem is there either. I have no problems with FTP on my own website for Sonic Racing.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityThanks to all for your replies. As far as I know, the Child theme is a stand alone theme and am not aware if there is a parent theme to that.
I have all the back up files here to use but to add to the problem is there is no longer any way to install or overwrite them as the Dashboard no longer has those options. That changed when the WordPress was updated.
Here is a screen shot of the current Dashboard layout –
PhotoDown the left side, there are menu item missing like Gallery and Back up and I’m sure there were others, I just can’t recall what they were.
I have control panel access which is different to the WordPress access this topic is about but the control panel doesn’t even look like our website as there are no folders or directories there – it looks like an empty website ready for someone to move in. If I could fine the correct control panel for the website, I’m could possibly install the back up or possibly make it worse…..
I have my own website which is http://sonicracingaustralia.com which I developed over 12 years ago and still maintain. As you will see, it is the most basic of html but works just fine and for the most part, is the extent of my knowledge.

In reply to: Updated to 4.2.2 – content missing and lost functionallityWhen I login to to site with WordPress, the Dashboard shows if there are any applications that have updates available. I allowed all of the updates to be done which included WordPress and themes. I don’t think the Child theme was one that had an update – it was 2010, 2011 and the Genesis themes.
I have the full back up unzipped on my PC and I can see all of the content from before any updates were done. JS, wp-admin, wp-content, wp-includes folders plus 1000’s of php files – themes, photos and so on – everything is there.
Regards, Danny.
