Hi, I have the exact same problem, and also believe it’s something that comes from the 1.2.1 update.
The language columns exist on posts and pages, but not on custom post types, and neither on custom taxonomies.
With custom post types you can circumvent the issue by going to the original language article and using the right column box to create a translation, so it’s still doable, however for the taxonomies you don’t get any of the translation options, except for the language switcher on the top bar. No way to make a taxonomy correspond to another of a different language.
I’ve tried, as indicated, to uncheck and check again both post type and taxonomy in the language settings, to no avail.
