I just found out what i needed to create the dropdown menu. It turns out that WP has it’s own Theme Customization API with live preview https://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Customization_API.

Yes that would be the header image dropdown code, i would like to see how wordpress did it. There is an image bellow which header dropdown menu i talk about. And no i don’t use a child theme i make my own from scratch.
