Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: How to get followersThanks to you both. My site is an art portfolio – so as I try to get people to find my site in the first place, it would be great if they ‘bookmark’ it to find again – I want to increase my use of the business side, hopefully gaining commissions and sales, maybe adding an e-commerce for prints at some point soon. http://www.sherigee.com
I’ve only just added the email/subscriber widget from jetpack, on my news page. I’m just not sure it’s very visible, especially on other pages.
I’ve mainly used the site to show work, but haven’t maximised on any selling/business functionality, which I really ought to do.
Thanks.

In reply to: [WPFolio] header imageDon’t worry – I’ve sorted it. Yes, the child theme was activated. I think there was an error in my coding – I started again – copied and pasted the code afresh – I must have made a mistake – and it works. Thanks

In reply to: Permissions/image uploadsThanks to all who helped. I’ve managed to put it right with this link: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/164003?replies=6
(basically changing settings – miscellaneous – uncheck ‘Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders’ box.
Save. All solved. Who’d have thought it.
No permissions changes needed. Some lovely person on Twitter sent me the link.
Thanks all.

In reply to: Permissions/image uploadsYes, that got me into a lot of trouble. I changed file permissions for the index.php and it didn’t get me anywhere. It currently has 664 (user rw, group r, user r).
Does that sound right, or too little access?
Thanks,

In reply to: Permissions/image uploads..If it works! I’ve mucked it up so much that I can’t even see my site – it’s forbidden!
Getting bored with this! (previous Mr Site customer… easy peasy).
Cheers,

In reply to: Permissions/image uploadsIt’s all a bit over my head. I think I’d rather get back to where it was before I mucked it up, so will try to re-upload the files. I’ve not done much, it’s my first week of all this.
Thanks anyway,

In reply to: Permissions/image uploadsHi Tarun,
Won’t that give readers rwx access? Surely I don’t want that?
Thanks,

In reply to: wp-config.php… where to put itWe crossed posts. Thanks for all your help.
Night night.
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: wp-config.php… where to put itOkay so maybe the reason this isn’t working is because my server has v.2.3 files and the config doc that I edited & uploaded was from my applications folder (which is v.2.7). Oh goodness. I’ve just realised the error. Could this be it? I’m not sure that my ISP is compatible with v.2.7 – I’ll have to ask them.

In reply to: wp-config.php… where to put itOkay, that’s now gone but it hasn’t solved anything. Now at my domain you get a forbidden message with the 403 forbidden message.
I get the 404 not found message at http://mydomain.com/wp-admin/install.php
Sorry about this!

In reply to: wp-config.php… where to put itI’ve no idea… I only just ditched my old easy site today, and started on Purple Cloud with WordPress – I installed WordPress from within it and it seems to have uploaded everything because I can see all of those folders in my ftp dialogue box on my server.
wp-config.php is in there with wp-login.php.
No idea why it didn’t work.
One thing – earlier today I altered the index.html to read that I’m under reconstruction. Because that’s still on there, is that why this isn’t working? So if you go to my site you just see the index page.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: wp-config.php… where to put itThanks for that. It’s not completely clear. In my ftp browser/dialogue box I only have folders. I located where you meant but it was in httpdocs – WordPress. I assume that’s the root?
Moving to the next install stage (presuming I put the config bit in the right place), I can’t seem to get joy from http://example.com/wp-admin/install.php (obviously changing ‘example’ to my domain name).
Do you know why it would come up with: Not Found
The requested document was not found on this server.
Web Server at sherigee.comI’ve been at this ALL day. crazy.
Thanks for your help.Sheri
