WPS Hide Login hide your login page slug and redirect to homepage when someone try to reach your back-office.

Then, if someone finds your login page, it means it’s public somewhere.

You’re right, XML-RPC is better desactivated but I don’t think it’s the reason why you’ve got login attempts.

There is no option for that especially in WPS Hide Login settings. However, you can do it with another plugin in addition like Sky Login Redirect or LoginWP.

Are your visitors able to sign up ? You can check it in your WP settings. It’s the only way for your users to find this slug when WPS Hide Login is installed.

This plugin only change the wp-login.php slug and redirect and lock wp-admin access for non-logged in users.

Then, Were you logged in when you tried to approve you new email address ?

Moreover, did you try to set your login page to wp-admin ? If you did that, it can’t work.

Deactivate and uninstall the plugin to install it again.
