In reply to: Direct WP from folder to rootI opened the file in notepad and it’s gobbledy gook. File is:
mercur11_wrdp1_wp_20110619_693.sql.gz. Isn’t gz a type of zip file?

In reply to: Direct WP from folder to rootGosh, I thought the backup (from WordPress Database Backup) included the db but maybe not. Export it from the cpanel or is there a place right in the WP admin panel?

In reply to: Direct WP from folder to rootI use the wordpress automatic update. It’s emailed everyday. Will that do? Gosh, this feels kind of scary honestly. Maybe I will just copy the files over to the root?

In reply to: Direct WP from folder to rootOkay, cool. Thanks and thanks for the link.
I’m a little lost. If I already installed WP into the subdirectory (/wordpress), then I don’t have to do step “6. Move your WordPress core files to the new location (WordPress address)” since the files are already in there? So, in terms of moving/copying, the only thing I’m doing is copying the index.php and .htaccess files? Not exactly sure what they mean here.
In #11 – what do they mean by update your permalink structure? I set up this site with “Custom Structure: /%postname%/”. Is there anything I need to change?
Thanks!

In reply to: Homepage/sidebar ulI should have waited 2 more minutes. Just found the answer from Esmi here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/thumbnails-not-showing-on-main-page?replies=2.
In short, his answer:
Your theme’s index.php file may be using <?php the_excerpt();?> instead of <?php the_content();?> in its template files. Try editing index.php and replacing <?php the_excerpt();?> with <?php the_content();?>.

In reply to: Post titlesGot it. It was an h2 CSS rule leftover from the website CSS that I had forgotten to remove. It was positioning the h2 absolutely.
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Add current post excerpt from a category to sidebarThank you so much! I searched and searched for a plugin but couldn’t find one. This is perfect!

In reply to: No Commenting areaFigured it out. Someone had created a page and a post with same title and WP created a page and post with same URLs. WP was taking user to page and not post with no comments so deleted the page.

In reply to: Forum pluginYahoo! Thanks so much Samuel.
Forum: Plugins
In reply to: Forum pluginThanks Samuel! Wondering if it’s simple or more complex. I’d like to have a forum tab and connect just that one tab to the forum. Not sure if you have to make your whole site into a forum with the plugin (“…seamlessly turning your WordPress site into a community.”)

In reply to: RSS widgetOh….also, Esmi, I couldn’t find the feedburner code for the RSS Reader in my account. Only for the email. I’ll look again.

In reply to: RSS widgetYeah, that’s what I did, kmessinger. Just wanted to use the RSS icon and had some problems but I’ll keep working on it.
Thanks Esmi. I didn’t realize that!!
