ok i tried changing the parameters above and they changed the left hand column but i need to change the right hand column.
any other ideas?

Yeah I have checked all that before and changed it untold times and nothing fixes it.
Under settings/reading it has front page displays your latest posts so my understanding of that is that it should display the most recent posts but I still have one post stuck there from months ago.
any other ideas?
