Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Unable to get on site after WordPress updateHi
I have completed the manual update to version 4.2.4. When I then tried to launch my website, I was back to the original problem of a blank white screen!!
I decided to revert to a standard theme to see if the theme I use was corrupted and then noticed an error message saying that the stylesheet for my theme was missing – how did that happen?!! Presumably a failed theme update. Anyway I uninstalled and then re-installed my theme and hey presto the website displayed.
Some of the settings had gone a bit off but I can fix them, so we’re finally back in business! The upgrading of WordPress appears to have been a complete red herring, but at least I know how to do it now!
Thanks for your help

In reply to: Unable to get on site after WordPress updateHi
I understand why you suggest that but it has taken me hours to upload all the files manually as the uploader I have will not take a folder at a time, it will only take the files so I have to loiad separately the contents of every single folder and sub-folder!
I upgraded to 4.2.3 because I started the process at the end of July before going on holiday for a week and came back to finish it yesterday!
I would therefore welcome any suggestions about making 4.2.3 work. What is the nature of the error reported? Does it imply a completely screwed up upload or rather a file or two which is critical to launching the website being corrupt? Was there a specific known problem with 4.2.3?
As you say overwriting files does not always work properly, should I delete all the files which I am replacing in wp-content and then upload the new ones (making sure I don’t delete any others!)?
Thanks
Tony

In reply to: [raindrops] Changing Post MetadataExcellent – that works on the Home page and in the Category view.
However, if I go onto the individual post itself, the Leave a Reply box is still displayed as well as the Comment link – any way of not displaying this box until you click on the Comment link?

In reply to: [raindrops] Changing Post MetadataSorry, I don’t understand your replies!
I don’t want to edit the Raindrops theme, I want to put something in my child theme, so I can’t just delete something.
The Comment link currently appears next to the Post title on every post. I want to remove this link on both the Home page and the individual post.Second point: the Leave a reply box appears at the bottom of individual post; I would like to remove this but have the Comment link in its place so that the Leave a reply box is only then displayed
