In reply to: Tweak my siteDude!
I really really like this layout. It is very classy, well spaced, subtle and easy to look at.
Frankly, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Except…
I get on others about this, but I like sub-headers. 10 words or less that gives you the jist of the blog. Would be nice, but not necessary. You have a pretty expansive “about” page.Good work!

In reply to: My latest and most comprehensive wordpress theme – EVER!I felt like CNBC barfed on my screen.
I have to say, It has a professional glean to it but there is just way way way too much going on.And I don’t know how to say this politely, so I’ll just say it… the rainbows don’t really scream finance to me. It is more of a “pride” vibe. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, and if thats what you are aiming for, then bullseye.

In reply to: I am new- can you please look at my site????Great Blog! Very touching.
I have a 4 y.o. too and its always encouraging to see parents with courage and patience like you.Anyways… to the blog.
I am using Safari and my ad block seems to be blocking any ads you may have.
I just see a big white space under your header. I’m assuming that is where your ad or whatever is. I’d recommend just Adding a graphic with a hyperlink rather than embedding someone else’s ad.Design-wise, I’d tighten up the header. You don’t need so much negative space in there. You could probably get it down to half it’s current size. And maybe use a cutesy font in a graphic image rather than Times Roman text. Kinda bland.
Also, I’d add a sub header that concisely sumarizes what your blog is about. 10 words or less. I had to dig around bit before I figured out the focus of your site. An “about” page would help too.
Otherwise I think it’s great! Colors are nice and airy.
Great content. More photos wouldn’t hurt.Only other tip… Print out the text from your blog and keep a physical scrapbook.
Blogs are nice and all, but having a physical version will always be with you.Sophie sounds like a real trooper. Good luck with everything ahead.
Cheers!

In reply to: Transplant from Blogger… How’s This? Thanks for the look-see WL.
I’m surprised those are the only problems you could see with a 800×640 browser. Also… for the record, Migratr is not a blog transition software… it’s for photos… never mind and disregard that.
Thanks.

In reply to: Snowboard and Skateboard shop blogOK for what it is.
I’d get a margin in there to get the text off the edge of the body and get some more consistency in the image sizes.
.. and I hate to say this, but… who cares what the weather is like in Jamestown, unless you live in Jamestown, in which I’m guessing your blog isn’t the first place are going to check to see if it’s raining.
Kidding… mostly.Forum: Your WordPress
In reply to: Corked 2.0: Personal Blog RedesignI concur with u6crash about the empty corkboard as you scroll down.
Maybe showing fewer posts or appending them would help.
… or filling the sidebar with other random stuff.I also like the search function, but it isn’t obvious. I’d add the words “Click here to” in the field.
Finally.. and this is a bit niggly… I love the bulletin board thing you have going, but the embossed rad looking header doesn’t seem to logically go with it. I can get my head around the plaster textured wall that he cork board is on, but I would probably go with some other graphic that would be on the same wall as a cork board, i.e. marker writing, or a note pasted up with masking tape or something. What you have is a cool effect, but to me, it just doesn’t match the rest of the effort.

In reply to: My new site using wordpress :DNice.
Well organized. Maybe a bit too technical, but if that’s your thing, you nailed it.My only real gripe would be the header graphic. The sub head “a web designer with video games addiction” … aside from not being proper english (should read “a web designer with a video game addiction” or, even better “a web designer addicted to video games”)… aside from that, it is too small to read and the chosen typeface does not help. I’d stick with something more plain and stay clear of the star trek looking font. Let the “Silvercrow” stand out and the subhead play backup.
Also, the header graphic is dwarfed by the width of the header. You have a lot of space to use, use it!Hope you don’t take this wrong. I am only focusing on the part I’d change and the header is really the only thing I would reconsider.

In reply to: Advice for blog appreciatedIt’s going in the right direction.
Here’s what I’d change if it were my blog:
Header is nicely designed, but creates too big a void at the top of the page. Redesign to make more horizontal.
Took a long time for me to load the page… could be that I’m in Asia.
Capitalize “home”
Do the Technorati Tags really need a background color? I would dispense with any unnecessary clutter… but I favor a more minimalist style.
The posts are too short. Two lines is not much of a teaser
Lots of dead space at the bottom of the home page.
Maybe make the grey background behind the nav bar a different more contrasty color… maybe pick up on the purple?
I like the collapsable side bar thingys.
Good work!

In reply to: Using CSS class styles to adjust image sizeDon’t know cheap ones, but Kat Keys in downtown St. Paul is very good.
Thanks for the tip on browsercam… but I think I would need much more than 24 hours to work out all the problems I seem to be having.

In reply to: Using CSS class styles to adjust image sizeNot to bore you with additional details, but I’m using SmugMug to host my images. They save 8 different sizes on their servers for each photo. I’m using the Medium size (600px wide) for the image on the blog and linking to the Large (800px wide) for the lightbox images.

In reply to: Using CSS class styles to adjust image sizeI think I have the “img-500” code working pretty well.
Check it out at http://www.snowless.com/wordpress and let me know if it is not working for you. (Click the images to see my lightbox function… I kinda like it)

In reply to: Using CSS class styles to adjust image sizeI’m a little fuzzy on setting a new class style.
I don’t want ALL my images to be 500px wide.Could i just assign a new style in my stylesheet like this?
..img-500 { width: 500px;And then refer to this in my post somehow?… this is where I get a bit confused.
