If you want the image to be compress maintaining the aspect ration, I am afraid that is not possible as it would make the header image terribly small breaking the entire header on smaller devices.

In reply to: [Sixteen] Changing page layoutsRemove the Category.php file to switch to traditional layout for category pages. And similary deleting home.php would get rid of it on homepages.
But, I am afraid doing so would change the look and concept of the theme.
Please make a backup of those files before deleting them. Just in case. 🙂

To change the default image, you can do that via Appearance > Header.
