In reply to: 5.6 update critical errorI just tried to update after giving up after previous falure and having my server provider re-instate the previous days version. Today it stopped when it got to “Preparing to install the latest version…” Nothing further happened. When I eventually tried to move elsewhere on the menu I got the message “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.” That’s also he message when trying to access the site from another device.
I would like to be able to ask my server provider to provide some extra something but I haven’t a clue what i should be asking for. Are we all doomed to be using our previous version forever? Thanks very much for the advice. Worked absolutely fine.

In reply to: Problems with updating pluginsThanks for that. Now I just have to work out why the update(s) failed and why I can’t restore from a backup!! Happy days until now.
Now I’m really going to have to show my lack of knowledge and experience! How do I do that if it’s much simpler? Thanks.
OK, I tried using HTML to make the link and that works fine but it would be better if the text changed color when the mouse is over it. Is there an easy way to achieve that?
That’s a cunning idea! I will give it a go. Thanks
Cheers. I’ll give it a go. I assume this will work without Pro.
Thanks I will have a go.
I tried no ends of different versions of the question but couldn’t get any sensible answers out of Google.

In reply to: [Ocean Extra] Sudden problem with Ocean Extra plug-inI have upgraded to PHP 7 and tried to install the plug-in but I get the following:
An error occurred while installing Ocean Extra: Could not create directory. /home/uydrtacp/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/ocean-extra/.
Incidentally the info on the plg-in says the following:
Requires WordPress Version: 4.5 or higher
Compatible up to: 4.9.5so people could not be expected to know they needed PHP 7.

In reply to: [Ocean Extra] Sudden problem with Ocean Extra plug-inI have been very busy on other things and have only just got around to learning about WordPress again. I tried installing Ocean Extra ahain. However now I have an error message when trying to view my site: “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /home/uydrtacp/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/ocean-extra/includes/dashboard.php on line 49″.
This is all very frustrating.

In reply to: [OceanWP] Importing spreadsheet into webpageThis was an Excel spreadsheet converted into an HTML webpage (using Excel). I need to update the spreadsheet every couple of weeks. This system works perfectly at present but I thought it was time to modernise. However from what I can find on the internet progress is not always beneficial. As far as I can see there is no sensible way to do what I want because TablePress cannot cope with merged cells. The current site “does what it says on the tin” as the old saying has it and just might have to suffice. Improvement appears to be not always a step forward.
