Yes, I did now manage to resolve it.
I just followed the instructions on http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

It was just exactly the solution I needed.

Hope it works for you too.

It took me a while to access the database (hadnt done in my life), but in the end it was very easy to make the needed changes
