Has there been any news on this? I’m faced with the same problem. I’m setting up an internal company blog that we want to keep private, but for which we want to grant authenticated RSS feed access, and as you said, the Angsuman plugin doesn’t do exactly what I want, since it seems to break RSS access entirely.
I’d love to see this feature added, as well. I can’t really see a scenario where you wouldn’t want the parent category to be selected when the child is, but I figure it’s easier to select it automatically but have the option of deselecting it later still available. Just my $.0.02
