i have now reverted the site back to its original url:
http://www.ineldersfield.org/wordpress
but i would still appreciate advice on how to change the url to:
http://www.ineldersfield.org

i have now home (it was on another page)
AND
unbelievably i had forgotten to put the /wordpress directory at the end of the url!
sometimes the thing that is most obvious is least obvious!
