oops. answering my own question, but https://www.shamimsplugins.com/wordpress/docs/front-end-pm-pro/getting-started-2/email-piping/ is exactly what i’m looking for. here for anyone else wondering the same. don’t understand the need for cpanel in the description though.
Thanks Scott, changing to wp-query solved some other issue I was having. For anyone else having similar issue, realized that Polylang resolves the frontpage a little differently that other pages. I know i should have checked plugins first, newb mistake.
