Thanks esmi. We’ve looked at some of these before, though not all. And we’re working through various checks/cleans.
But, is a hack the only possibility? So far each new attempt at cleaning speeds things up, temporarily, before things go sideways again.
Heh, okay, fixed it.
Answer: went into my database from my hosts control panel, searched the database for the term “home”, and a second search for “siteurl” and looked at the entries that had the tableprefix that matched my second blog. Edited these back to the proper location, and blog2 works again.
Now, do I dare try installing blog3 again?

Oh, and I also tried upgrading the WordPress version, hoping that that might allow me into the dashboard but that didn’t work.
And, tried going to directly to wp-login.php in blog2 to log in, and then going directly to blog2 location but it still shows that I’m not logged in.
