After searching why this was not working with my tickets I find the following:
“My Tickets and Recurring Events
At this time, I don’t recommend that you use My Tickets to sell tickets on recurring or grouped events in My Calendar; the way My Tickets handles event data is not compatible with complex events.”

Perhaps this should be added in the my tickets plugin description and I wouldn’t have wasted all this time trying to figure out why this was not working.
