I would open a support ticket with your host and have them trace it.
Have you looked at the other site to get a feel for how established and how motivated they are to grow with it? Was it a one-off idea they lost interest in or are they well established and highly networked?

It really depends on how the theme you are using is set up. The DIY Thesis Theme (I use) allows you to pick just the category you want. It is really worth it to get a pro theme!
