In reply to: 500 internal server errorActually looking at the posts that I have unsuccessfully tried to update and got the 500 error I see that something seems to have changed with the post as some more of the content is now missing. When I have had this problem I seem to be losing content with these attempts to update, and cannot update to restore the content.

In reply to: 500 internal server errorJust did a wordpress admin wordpress reinstall, no different. Is that sufficient as a reinstall or do I need to do a manual one?

In reply to: 500 internal server errorHi Wpyogi, site is http://knifesharpenersguide.com/
I’ve tried on another computer but not from another connection as I don’t really have that option easily available. But the host (Hostgator) doesn’t get the error at all their end.
But I can update other wordpress sites that I have with Hostgator just fine, it’s just this one. The issue began intermittently at first but is now total and although my site is broken I cannot update any posts.
When the problem was intermittent I discovered that I could update posts but the update seemed to miss out some of the bottom half of the content. Very strange.

In reply to: 500 internal server errorHi Sabinoo, thanks. Yes I’ve tried the changing theme and deactivating plugins. No difference. Tried it with all plugins off, twenty 11 and htaccess at 777. No difference.
Haven’t asked the host about errors, I suppose that’s next but after over an hour on chat with them they might not want to waste a lot more time on me especially as it is all working fine for them. They can login just fine and use everything as normal, so from their end there’s no problem at all. It’s only my end.
Cheers.
Thanks Max. Good suggestion. I’ll do that. Cheers
Eventually moved it down to the bottom of the sidebar as it looks terrible when at the top and scrolls underneath the content.
Is it only able to go on the bottom or is it possible to use it on the top somehow and make it look good? I’d prefer it at the top if possible.
By current content I mean underneath the current sidebar content, not underneath the main content. I’ve left it on for the moment so you should see what I mean.
Cheers

In reply to: Problem with no data receivedHi WPyogi it’s not just with one website, it’s with all sorts of websites. Some are mine and some are not. I get a range of issues, sometimes just a page of code. No idea what is going on.

In reply to: Can someone explain post author pleaseYou got it working, not me. I just took your advice. Yes very happy that it works now, it was driving me nuts trying to work this out, so again, much appreciated, thanks.

In reply to: Can someone explain post author pleaseIT WORKS, Essaysnark you’re a genius. I would never have found that in a thousand years. Never even occurred to me to look there. And strangely with all plugins turned off, including yoast, it didn’t work either!
I now have an author page!
There’s the value of this forum and having contributers like you who know so much more than me. So much appreciated.
All the best to you and thanks again!

In reply to: Can someone explain post author pleaseSorry Essaysnark, I think you misunderstood. Maybe I explained it wrong.
Changing the nicename made no difference. (no change to the author link).
No I don’t have an author file, I did look for that yesterday. So I gave that a try, downloaded and uploaded the author.php to my current theme, but it still redirects to the home page.

In reply to: Can someone explain post author pleaseShould have been clearer, the change I made in the database was to the “nicename” in the users table, and it now shows Pver 40 Cyclist ie with spaces, but no change to the author link.
There is a “user url” field there but it’s blank.

In reply to: Can someone explain post author pleaseI’ve tried creating another user as admin, thinking that if that worked then I could transfer all posts to that user and delete the current one. But again the author link just sentme to the homepage and the link displayed the username ie
http://www.over40cyclist.com/author/username/I don’t really want to display my username in my link, not very secure.
Looked all through databases for Over40Cyclist, only found one which was my display name, so changed that to Over 40 Cyclist which worked to change the display name but didn’t change the author link. No other entries for Over40Cyclist in the database other than in the normal urls as that is the url.
