Did you ever figure out what the problem is? I’m having the same issue.
I have a page with [show_product_catalog]. The plugin created one, its private.
I guess the better question would be, does eCommerce require its own widget to display categories correctly?
If you go to my site http://www.overtonflooring.com/hardwood/ and click on any of the links in the sidebar widget it shows nothing but text. If you click on the Top menu buttons it takes you to the product page and if you click on a picture it shows description + picture correctly. I want it to show like that when someone clicks on the sidebar widget links.
