In reply to: multisites vs. symlinked code filesAnd four thousand holes in Blackburn Lancashire…
Can you describe what is generically the issue with symlinks that creates problems?

In reply to: automatic update 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 failedpauln600 – You can safely delete the folders wp-includes and wp-admin and reupload them from a fresh copy of WP, without harming the sanctity of your data :
Well, that’s what I thought/hoped – but after I replacing the files, the admin dashboard reports:
“You are using WordPress 3.1.2. Update to 3.1.2”
So I would naively assume that some database updates were attempted…

In reply to: automatic update 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 failedYes, the failed update left things in kind of a bad way – the admin area is reporting the right version in one area, but requesting an update in another… last time I’ll try that, I think.

In reply to: automatic update 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 failedI don’t think it’s an ftp issue – seems to have been able to update most of the files in the indicated directory…
But yes, I think I’ll do updates manually from now on.

In reply to: upgrade problemWhat about plugins – do these need to be upgraded stepwise as well?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: upgrade problemNo, just went from 2.6 to 3.1.1. I didn’t see any advisory in the upgrade process about stepwise upgrades… did I miss something, or is this missing from the upgrade docs?
Thanks,
Paul
