Thanks to adrienj and HGK SMTP extension, this problem is now solved for me.
My WordPress version is 2.9.2 and the latest version of Contact Form 7 did not work (no error message, but no emails were sent). I downloaded, installed and configured HGK SMTP extension with correct SMTP parameters and everything works fine now.
