In reply to: Backing Up WordPress 3.0.1 BlogThanks healthvotes.
For FTP, I’ve been using Transmit (from panic Software, Mac-only) for years. I love it. Works great.OK, here’s where I’m confused now. I can go to Tools/Backup… and download a table. It has the name of the database that was setup when I installed WP. it has the database name and ends with .sql. That, I believe is the MySQL database. Right?
So what is the XML backup?

In reply to: Backing Up WordPress 3.0.1 BlogHi esmi, thanks for posting.
Right now I have WP Database Backup and it works pretty good. My database is pretty small, I was thinking that it should be bigger. I scheduled it to email me twice a day.I was under the impression that I could schedule the themes and plugins, too. I already have them archived on my Mac and FW drive. I archive all new plugins that I download.
Thanks!

In reply to: links within posts – follow or no follow? Thanks for that heads up. I was just reading about that plugin. Pink and purples…
And I found out about my pieces, too. It basically lets the links to my article show up in the comments, and vice versa.

In reply to: Is WP for me? Any suggestions?WP should be able to handle it. You might want to Google schools using WP as a CMS and see what they’ve done…
BTW, all files don’t have to be FTPed. You can upload files directly from your desktop and they’ll get placed on the server. Just thought you’d like to know that.
The updating, in theory, isn’t that hard. If you can work with MS OFfice and email you have the bulk of the skills necessary to update the site. Or whoever will be doing it.

In reply to: Love to learn WPI installed a copy of WP on a server and had it hidden. I tinkered and played with it. Imported an old Blogger blog into it. Kicked the tires. When I learned enough I installed WP on my final server and went live.
Find your learning groove and work with that. It wont be over night, though. Take your time and learn it well enough to make it do what you want.

In reply to: course or lessonI’m a rank newbie, but am learning fast. I learned by getting the basics, but I keep learning by reading more and more. Popping into forums, Googling, trial and error… There may not be a best course available, as everyone learns in their own, unique way. The codex is a good start. Supplement that with trips to Barnes and Noble and reading books. You’d be surprised that you soon identify what you want to learn and will gravitate toward those topics.
PHP is not joined at the hip with WP. There are tons of books on the topic that you can read independently of WP. Barnes and Noble is your friend there, too.
What course did you get, though. It would be a good red flag for the rest of us!

In reply to: Choseit became wordpress?choseit.com redirects to qnsit.com
Loading the page, it said “Choseit is temporarily down until the 6th of October due to server hosting, technical issues, however, for new signups please use our sister site, qnsit.”

In reply to: links within posts – follow or no follow?I’m here to find out, too. I’m a newbie, but think it’s related to the “Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article” and “Allow link notifications from other blogs” options in the Discussion Settings…

In reply to: [Plugin: Lightbox 2] How to get lightbox 2 to work on WP3.0?Mine works in 3.0.1, but it kills my Google Friend Connect code. Don’t know why. It just renders an empty white box. Look at paternalcandor.com and see. Not sure how to fix it 🙁
If I disable Lightbox Google Friend Connect is visible. When I enable Lightbox GFC is gone…
