@gladwda: Yes tried ftp. Nothing changes. I think all of the issues are somehow related.
So far here is what I know I cannot do:
1. Update/Install plugins,
2. Update/Install new themes (free ones)
3. Upload pics.

@Pixelologist- I don’t recall the solution off hand. I hand to make adjustments to my sidebar.php of my theme. I have since changed themes, and don’t have any of m records. Sorry.
